Wiltshire
A field-sportsman’s dream, the immaculate Ballington Manor provides the perfect topography for top quality partridge and pheasant shooting. The shoot covers around 1,500 acres with the ground well suited to early partridges and mixed days later in the season. A purpose-built lodge was built in the middle of the shoot providing a fantastic venue for meeting and lunches.
This famous sporting estate in the heart of Wiltshire was taken on by the Stratton family in 2015, after many years of running the hugely popular Stockton estate just a stone’s throw down the valley.
Typically, the estate is a partridge shoot from September onwards, the rolling chalk downland is perfect habitat for game birds and the deep valleys produce some very special sport for visiting guns. The pheasants come into the mix later on into the season and also provide very challenging shooting.
The shoot has a lovely feel to the whole day, very relaxed and enjoyable but also extremely professional, everyone involved is very passionate about what they do. Guns are welcome to either travel around the estate in the gun bus which has become famous at Ballington or in their own 4x4’s.
Shooting is available exclusively from September onwards through Darbishire Sporting Agents.
The estate lies within the glorious Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs AONB, whose sparkling chalkstreams and dramatic, undulating terrain have long proved irresistible to fishermen and guns from all around the world.
The shoot day is based around the shoot lodge in the middle of the estate with stunning views down one of the main valleys. Typically we would shoot 4 drives and stop after each for refreshments before returning to the lodge for a late lunch. Shooting on the estate early on in September and October is very special.
Locally there are plenty of options from cosy pubs, luxury hotels and private houses.
